Creative & Research Biography

Brazillian born mixed media artist Gláucia Mir spent her childhood in São Paulo, and her teens and twenties in New York City.

She lived in Bucks County, PA for 5 years, which were formative in her love of the country. She has been a Florida resident since 2013.

In addition to her almost daily output of drawings Gláucia is an art teacher. She has taught middle schoolers, preschoolers and adults.

She has worked as a hotel desk clerk, web designer and youth director and photographer, to name a few.

Gláucia is a single mother to 2 bright teen boys that inspire her and keep her on her toes.

With this degree as an Art Educator, Gláucia hopes to be able to help many more students come to love art and find their voice. The many facets of her indentity are paramount in the way she approaches creativity.

Artwork explained

The image above depicts the many layers and labels I have been given.  These labels make up my identity.

Some of them I wear proudly.  Some of them, I want to shed. Some have been given to me whether I agree with them or not.

Currently, I am a graduate student, an artist and a teacher.   But I am also a mother, a sister, a friend, a daughter, a servant.

The variety of layers, shows parts of myself through words and papers I have written or created and through words that have been written to me by students and friends.

Younger sillier me (a recreation of a portrait drawn in middle school), as well as a portrait of myself as others see me today.

I chose to use transparency to show that my identity is changing as I become who God made me to be. I am a work in progress in all aspects of my life.
