Artwork explained
“Labeled”
The image above depicts the many layers and labels I have been given. These labels make up my identity.
Some of them I wear proudly. Some of them, I want to shed. Some have been given to me whether I agree with them or not.
Currently, I am a graduate student, an artist and a teacher. But I am also a mother, a sister, a friend, a daughter, a servant.
The variety of layers, shows parts of myself through words and papers I have written or created and through words that have been written to me by students and friends.
Younger sillier me (a recreation of a portrait drawn in middle school), as well as a portrait of myself as others see me today.
I chose to use transparency to show that my identity is changing as I become who God made me to be. I am a work in progress in all aspects of my life.
